Every now and again we run sessions for our valued clients to help them revisit their Team Management Profiles and discover new ways to apply it to their everyday work.
A few weeks ago I ran a session with 50 leaders at the State Library of Victoria. This wonderful group of leaders was from a range of different departments from Finance to Archiving. They had all received their own TMP during the Shared Leadership course some as far back as 5 years.
In this high energy session, leaders were taken through various exercises reminding them how useful their TMPs are to spark off conversations around how they like to work and communicate and how they can improve this.
To refresh the group on the relevance of the Types of Work Wheel they used flip chart paper to analyse what the different Types of Work specifically involve for them in their jobs. Next leaders were challenged to apply the Types of Work Wheel to successfully accomplish the Pins and Straws activity outlined in the TMS Games People Play resource. As you can see in the photo here, the group had some very innovative ideas like attaching their construction to the ceiling.

To round up the session the group went through eight rounds of speed dating. They had only 3 minutes each to discuss the following questions with different colleagues:
- What motivates me?
- How do I prefer to communicate? Dos and Don’ts?
- In projects what I enjoy most/ least is…
- If I could improve in one area it is…
- My dream meeting looks like…
- I enjoy helping people with…
- The area I’d like assistance with is…
- My dream project would be…
This was a great session with a great group of leaders. I look forward to staying in touch with them and hearing more about how they are keeping TMS on the agenda.
