Reaching 25 years is a fantastic milestone for Team Management Systems (TMS). In this video, TMS co-founder Dr Dick McCann reminisces the early days of TMS and describes how he added colour to the first black and white Profile.
It was such fun looking over 25 years of photographs that we decided to share some of them. Above is a collage of memories from various workshops, conferences and team-building exercises that Team Management Systems has been a part of. Please enjoy taking a peek back into our history with us.
An eventful twenty-five years.
In October this year, we wrapped up WOTCON 2010 - our World of Teams Conference celebrating our 25 year anniversary. Here, we take a look back at the various events Team Management Systems has hosted over its 25 years. Many have attended our case study speaker events over the years where organisations such as Qantas, National Australia Bank, Queensland Health, Department of Defense and Alcatel have shared their experiences on using the TMS Profiles in a range of applications. We have also held Network Member Forums giving Network Members an opportunity to discuss and share their ideas on learning and development challenges. Topics we have covered include Making Change Stick and Games & Activities to Enhance TMS Workshops.
Here are a few that stood out:
The World of Teams Conference ’98 was an international experience, TMS gathered experts from Europe, America, South Africa, New Zealand and Asia to talk about leadership and management development.
The Future Teams Conference was a fabulous networking opportunity and provided the latest insights in learning processes as well as workshop games and activities. It was also the place Team Management Systems launched the Obstacles-Opportunities Profile (QO2TM) and the TMS Research Manual second edition.
Paul Kessler presented Leadership at The Edge®. Using famed explorer Ernest Shackleton’s legendary Antarctic expedition as a backdrop, this exhilarating presentation offered ten critical strategies for leaders in today’s challenging business environment. This seminar enlightened its audience to how understanding resilience in the face of unimaginable circumstances could be the most important lesson in your career.
Organisational Values Profile Launch - Predicting how people might act and interact at work requires expert research and reliability. At this special launch, attendees gained insight into how this powerful instrument can help solve organisational challenges and be applied to real work situations.
The Dynamics of High-Performing Teams: Dr Dick McCann, co-author of Team Management Systems, presented his revolutionary work in building high-performing teams. Dick offered a framework that teams can use to address any potential imbalances and maintain performance at an optimal level.

The front cover of the Team Management System’s Newsletter may have changed, but the content has remained relevant and pertinent to Network Members. We looked at a few back issues and here are just a couple of the notable features.
November 1990 – Team Management Outdoors: Dick McCann explains the benefits of well planned outdoor activities in making TMS concepts long lasting.
August 1994 – TMS Modular Software: Software that created Profile reports all in one program was trialled in Brisbane. (We know it was a success!)
May 1998 – WoTCon Special Edition: The International World of Teams Conference was a success, for the first time TMS had experts gathered from Europe, North and South America, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Asia to talk about leadership and management development worldwide.
February 2000 – Himalayan Teamwork (Teams, Mountains and Ice-Axes): With lessons learnt from the 1997 Dhaulagiri Expedition, Bob Killip and Major Zac Zaharias succeeded along with the Australian Army mountaineers in placing the largest ever number of climbers from a single expedition on top of an eight thousand metre peak. Major Zac Zaharias attributes the TMP as a significant factor in creating a successful team.

In The Spotlight: Stewart Mitchell

We asked TMS-accredited Network Member Stewart Mitchell his most memorable moment using TMS.
Stewart Mitchell: “There have been a few memorable moments. I think there's always a memorable moment when people get a moment of truth from the Profile. I remember one woman and I use her expression so often in workshops. She read the Profile and she said to me after:
“The Profile reaffirms who I am as a person; and I like being me.”
I think that's good when people can say you don’t have to be something else. Just be yourself.”
